After months of leaks and rumors, Apple finally unveiled the next-generation 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro models alongside the iPad Air. Both iPad Pro SKUs feature Ultra Retina XDR displays, the latest M4 SoC, and a brand-new design. However, despite the vastly improved hardware, the iPad Pro models may struggle to break sales records.
According to a new report that focuses on AMOLED and its use in tablets arguing that AMOLED tablets will clock 9 million in sales in 2024, TrendForce estimates that the new iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 13-inches could see shipments of “only” 4.5 to 5 million units in total. While we don’t have the numbers regarding the shipments of the last-gen iPad Pro, TrendForce’s wording makes it seem like the 4.5 to 5 million figure is somewhat disappointing compared to Apple’s 2023 iPad Pro (Available on Amazon).
As a reference, Apple was reportedly the market leader in 2023 with a 40% share of the global tablet market with 54 million units shipped.
TrendForce argues that the introduction of the cheaper 13-inch iPad Air and the $200 more starting price of the 2024 iPad Pro could be the reasons why the new iPad Pro models see lower sales, as folks who want a larger iPad now have a more affordable alternative in the iPad Air 13.
That said, only time will tell how much better or worse the new iPad Pros do vs their predecessors.
Finally, If you fancy yourself a new Apple tablet, both the iPad Pro 11 and 13-inch models are up for pre-order right now with official sales scheduled to commence on May 15.
