In just five years, Xiaomi managed to grow from just another Chinese startup to one of the leading companies in the area. However, their chain of retail stores cannot be compared to Apple's, but Xiaomi has big plans for the years to come.
According to Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, the company wants to expand its offline presence in the near future. He was quoted by Shanghai Daily saying that "We want consumers to touch and test our products with the core technologies in the stores. We have adapted our strategies… Xiaomi will open 1,000 stores by 2020."
Unlike Apple, Xiaomi currently sells more than just handsets, tablets, or convertibles. Its stores offer a wide range of products, including TV sets, water purifiers, electric cookers, and more. Even more, growing to 1,000 stores might not be impressive at all when considering the competition from other Chinese companies. Huawei, for example, has no less than 10,000 retail stores in China at this moment.
