Xiaomi might be well-known for its smartphones, but there is much more to this Chinese brand, which also manufactures a wide range of smart home products. Thanks to the agreement that the company has just signed with IKEA, Xiaomi is now adding more smart home accessories by other brands to its IoT ecosystem.
Earlier this week, Xiaomi's Director of Product Management and global spokesperson, Donovan Sung, has shared the news concerning the new partnership on Twitter. His message reads the following: "@Xiaomi and @IKEA announced a strategic partnership today. Going forward, IKEA's line of smart lighting products will be connected to Xiaomi's IoT platform, starting in December."
The aforementioned IKEA products will get full support for the Mi Home app and for Xiaomi's AI assistant — known as Xiao — but there are still many details about how this is going to work that Xiaomi needs to unveil.
During Xiaomi's 2018 developers conference, Sung also revealed two milestones related to the company's efforts in the AI and IoT markets: no less than 2,000 supported IoT categories and an impressive figure of 132,000,000 connected smart devices.
