Xiaomi MIX: Bezel-less ceramic phone with 6.4 inch display to arrive in November

Xiaomi not only introduced the Mi Note 2 yesterday, they also unveiled a new phone concept called the MIX, where Xiaomi and french designer Philippe Starck concentrated on removing as many bezels as possible. That led to a phone that packs a 6.4 inch display into a 158.8 x 81.9 x 7.9 mm ceramic body. There are almost no bezels on the left and ride sides as well as on the top. Xiaomi moved the 5 megapixel front camera to the right bottom of the phone and had to find alternative technologies to sensors and the earpiece that normally sit above the display. While Xiaomi calls the MIX a concept-phone, it will actually be sold in China starting November 4th. 

Hardware

The 6.4 inch display has a 17:9 format with a resolution of 2,040 x 1,080 pixel. Xiaomi says, that this allows them to achieve a 16:9 format for the content if you deduct the space necessary for the virtual navigation buttons. Instead of using glue and adhesives, Xiaomi decided to connect the ceramic body to the display using plugs. There is a single 16 megapixel camera on the back of the MIX, that uses an F/2.0 aperture, PDAF and can record 4K video. 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 are included. LTE is on board but only very few LTE-bands are supported, Xiaomi did not include the world modem used in the "Special Global Edition" of the Mi Note 2. 

Two versions

The battery is 4,400 mAh in size and supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Xiaomi integrated a 24 bit / 192 kHz DAC for better audio. A Snapdragon 821 processor with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of fast UFS 2.0 storage are included. Micro-SD cards are not supported for expansion. The smaller version with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage will be available for $515, the bigger version with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage will set you back $590 but also has 18 carat of gold around fingerprint sensor and camera lens. Xiaomi will start selling the MIX starting November 4th.
