The GM of Xiaomi Indonesia has confirmed when the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro will be receiving Android 10, and it is not good news for the former. Brought to our attention by Piunikaweb and in response to a tweet, Tse confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 would not be receiving Android 10 until "maybe July", with the OS upgrade set to land on the Redmi Note 8 Pro this month.
To clarify, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has already received Android 10 in some regions. The upgrade has already reached handsets enrolled on the Chinese, European, Global and Russian branches of MIUI 11 according to Xiaomi Firmware Updater. It seemed that Xiaomi had pushed Android to Indonesia too, but Tse's tweet suggests otherwise.
With that said, no versions of the Redmi Note 8 have received Android 10 yet. It is unclear whether this will be an MIUI 11 or MIUI 12 based update, either. On the one hand, it should follow that the Redmi Note 8 receives Android 10 with MIUI 11, as the Redmi Note 8 Pro and many other Xiaomi smartphones have done. However, Android 10 builds of MIUI 12 are already being tested internally for the Redmi Note 8 Ultimately, having to wait almost a year for Android 10 is a kick in the teeth regardless of whether it comes on MIUI 11 or MIUI 12, in our opinion.
