Redmi Note 8 Pro: Another update goes live for Xiaomi's mid-range smartphone, but it won't bring Android 10 to most handsets
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is due a new update in most regions, with Xiaomi the European variant last receiving an update in December. While Global and Indian variants received V11.0.6.0 and V11.0.4.0 respectively last month, both remain on Android 9.0 Pie builds of MIUI 11. By contrast, Xiaomi ushered in the new decade by upgrading Chinese handsets to Android 10, courtesy of V11.0.1.0.QGGCNXM.
Xiaomi has now started issuing a new update for the Redmi Note 8 Pro, but only for those on the China Stable branch of MIUI. Brought to our attention by Piunikaweb, V11.0.2.0.QGGCNXM should arrive as an OTA. However, it remains a Beta China Stable build for the time being, with Xiaomi pushing it to a random selection of handsets. If the rollout goes well and there are no bugs, then Xiaomi will extend it to all Redmi Note 8 Pro devices enrolled on the China Stable branch.
Understandably, the arrival of a second Android 10 build in China has frustrated some Redmi Note 8 Pro owners. Apparently, new OTA updates for other Redmi Note 8 Pro variants are scheduled for mid-March, but there has been no official confirmation of this. Xiaomi rarely releases statements to this effect though, perhaps with exception to the Mi A3.
