When the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 was announced this week, people were astounded that the Intel version of this ThinkPad laptop was said to feature RJ45 Ethernet and upgradable RAM, while the datasheet of the AMD version featured neither. We asked Lenovo if this was true - and it turns out that the spec-sheet released by Lenovo was wrong.

AMD laptops have a long history of receiving a worse treatment than their Intel counterparts. A history that is still not completely behind us. The newly announced ThinkPad T14s is evidence for that, as only the Intel version will feature the 4K UHD HDR panel. The Ryzen ThinkPad T14s will not be available with this option.

The more affordable Lenovo ThinkPad T14 with AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 seemed to have suffered an even worse fate: Not only was this version missing the UHD panel option, the spec-sheet of this model was also missing the full-size RJ45 Ethernet as well as upgradable RAM - two features listed in the spec sheet of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 with Intel CPUs.

For us, this difference was perplexing. After all, such AMD versions are normally not different from their Intel brothers in terms of ports and RAM. So, we asked Lenovo. And it turns out that the spec-sheet that Lenovo gave the press was incorrect. This is Lenovo's answer:

The datasheet is incorrect, or rather incomplete. T14 has RJ45 regardless of processor. For the DIMM, both Intel and AMD models have 1 soldered DIMM and 1 DIMM slot.

While the Ryzen ThinkPad is still at a slight disadvantage to the Intel model due to the missing UHD screeb option, it probably would have impacted more people negatively if those two features were really missing.
