Xiaomi launches Mijia Smart Temperature and Humidity Meter 3 Pro
Xiaomi has upgraded its entry-level smart-home sensor with the Mijia Smart Temperature and Humidity Meter 3 Pro, adding carbon-dioxide monitoring to the temperature and humidity measurements offered by its predecessors (namely the standard Monitor 3 and Mini 3). The new model uses a low-power Sensirion CO2 sensor that supposedly reflects air conditions through green, yellow and red status colours.
The 3 Pro also has a substantially larger 3.6-inch LCD, which shows the date, day, time, temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration. By comparison, the standard Monitor 3 has a 2.5-inch display, while the smaller 3 Mini uses a 2.1-inch screen.
Connectivity has also been expanded. Via Xiaomi’s Bluetooth Mesh system and a compatible gateway, the 3 Pro can send readings to the Mi Home app, track trends and trigger smart-home responses when configured thresholds are reached. This gives it capabilities beyond the mere temperature-and-humidity automation supported by the Monitor 3 and 3 Mini.
The device runs on a CR2450 battery, with Xiaomi claiming around one year of battery life. It is currently being crowdfunded in China through Xiaomi Youpin for 114 yuan (approx. $17). Information on international availability is still pending; considering the global launch of the Monitor 3 and Mini models, the 3 Pro is likely to also get a global launch at some point in the future.
