Smart light strip impresses with its light and versatility: Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro review
Enlightening.
The Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is a modern smart home light strip that impresses with, among other things, over 1,300 LEDs per meter. Our review shows what it is capable of.Marcus Schwarten (translated by Marcus Schwarten (translation supported by DeepL)) Published 🇩🇪
Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro Review Summary: Versatile Light Strip
The Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is undoubtedly one of the best LED strips on the market. Thanks to its various technologies, it can not only display great colors and countless effects but also provide seamless lighting without any visible points of light.
The possibilities are extensive, as the somewhat cluttered app offers numerous options for controlling how the LED strip lights up, including an AI assistant with voice control. The color rendering is excellent, and the brightness of around 500 lumens per meter is solid. However, the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is primarily suitable for (indirect) lighting effects rather than as the main source of illumination—which is typical of light strips.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
Govee offers the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro in two lengths. The 2-meter version has a suggested retail price of $99.99, while the 5-meter light strip has a suggested retail price of $169.99. Both are available, for example, directly from the manufacturer.
With the COB Strip Light 2 Pro, Govee unveiled the second generation of its COB Strip Light at IFA 2026. The light strip is available in a standard version and an even better Pro version. We took a hands-on look at the 5-meter Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro.

Features: 1,334 LEDs per Meter
The Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is the manufacturer’s most advanced light strip to date. Thanks to its three-layer LED architecture, Govee packs in an impressive 1,334 LEDs per meter. We did not count them ourselves. However, the continuous band of light with no individually visible points of light demonstrates the high LED density. Incidentally, this is also one of the differences between the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro and the Govee COB Strip Light 2, which has “only” 840 LEDs per meter.
Thanks to RGBWWIC and LuminBlend+ technology, the light strip can display not only millions of different colors but also color temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 K—that is, from very cool to very warm. It also offers a brightness of 540 lumens per meter and a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of over 92, indicating very vivid and true-to-life colors. We describe how good this looks in practice later in our Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro review.
As usual, the Govee LED strip can not only be controlled via the app but also be integrated extensively with other systems—more on that in the next section. We discuss our hands-on impressions regarding installation, cut-to-size options, and more in the third section. To conclude this section, here are a few brief words about the package contents. In addition to the light strip in a length of 2 or 5 meters and the inline controller on an approximately 1.2-meter cable, the package includes the obligatory power adapter with an approximately 1.5-meter cable, two cable clips, and an end cap for use after cutting the strip.
App: Numerous Options in a Cluttered App
The heart of the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is, of course, the Govee app. The app must first be used to establish a connection to the light strip and set it up. This worked without any issues in practice, with the connection established via either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
The light strip can then be controlled via the app. In addition to switching it on and off, there are numerous lighting design options. Besides setting a specific color or shade of white, the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro can also display gradients comprising up to 10 colors. The color transitions can be concentrated within a relatively short section or fade smoothly across the entire section. Under “Graffiti,” selected effects can also be distributed across the light strip in much finer increments, allowing individual sections only around 5 cm long on the 5-meter version to light up in the respective color.
The desired settings can be adjusted not only using buttons and sliders but also with the AI Lighting Bot. It responds to both text and voice input. This means you can simply describe your desired lighting and trust the AI to produce a suitable result. The AI assistant performed well in our test: it generally understood the input and reliably implemented simple requests. Whether the AI-generated scenes are appealing is something everyone must decide for themselves.
In addition to letting users create their own lighting effects, the Govee app offers the usual selection of more than 60 preset scenes. If desired, the light can also be made to “dance” in 16 different music modes. The smartphone does not necessarily need to be nearby for this because the light strip has a built-in microphone. It is impressive how quickly the light reacts to beats and other sounds, flashing in time with the music with virtually no delay. Of course, it also reacts to all other noises—which may be of interest for other smart use cases.
In addition to control via the Govee app—which I personally find a bit too colorful and cluttered—the manufacturer naturally offers the usual integration options as well. Alongside Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings, the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is also compatible with Matter. This enables even more extensive integration with other smart home systems.
Hands-on Use: Versatile Light Strip
In practice, the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro impresses above all with its continuous glow, without any discernible points of light. This is a real improvement compared with the first light strips on the market, which had large gaps between their LEDs years ago and therefore did not provide consistently even illumination. A lot has changed in this area in recent years—not only at Govee, but also among all the other manufacturers.
The colors of the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro are vibrant and, in our opinion, look really good. Its maximum brightness of just over 500 lumens per meter is on par with many alternatives, but it cannot compete with the Philips Hue OmniGlow (starting at around $140 on Amazon), for example. It is therefore more suitable as accent lighting than as the main light in a room, especially since a lot of light is lost when walls, ceilings, and other surfaces are illuminated indirectly.
Installing the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro is easy. An acrylic adhesive is applied to the back, allowing the light strip to be attached easily to smooth surfaces after the protective layer has been removed. Initially, it adheres well. Unfortunately, our short test period does not allow us to assess how well it will hold after several months or even years.
A practical feature is that the LED strip can be cut to the desired length at 6.5 cm intervals. This allows it to be adapted fairly precisely, although the cut-off end cannot be reused. Despite being approximately 11 mm thick, it is still reasonably flexible and can be routed around corners and similar obstacles, although it protrudes noticeably.
In some installation scenarios, the rather bulky control unit at the end of the light strip could be even more troublesome. It measures 9 x 4 x 1.5 cm and houses three buttons and the control electronics. It is permanently attached and therefore cannot be removed, so space must be found for it in addition to the power adapter plugged directly into the outlet, which measures approximately 9 x 5 x 3.5 cm without the plug. In return, the control unit allows the light to be switched on and off and lets users cycle through brightness levels and scenes without the app.
Finally, a few words about power consumption, which is also worth considering, especially when the strip is used continuously. At full brightness, the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro consumes around 45 W according to our measurements. In standby mode, its power consumption is barely measurable and close to 0 W.
