Transparent retro CD player with Bluetooth glows in the dark
Vinyl isn't the only retro audio trend making a comeback, portable music players still find buyers too. Alongside digital music players such as a brand-new iPod reincarnation and cassette players such as We Are Rewind ($199 on Amazon), new CD players also regularly come onto the market, such as the new Relax Pixel Tunes.
Pixel Tunes is unusual primarily because of its retro design – the body is made of partially transparent resin, and the white version even glows green at night, provided it has previously been exposed to sufficient daylight. A small LCD displays information about the current playback, five buttons control playback and the other features, while a rotary dial with a click adjusts the volume and switches the player on and off.
The CD player offers an integrated battery with a capacity of 2,600 mAh or 7.4 Wh, which is said to provide five to ten hours of runtime, depending on the volume. It charges via USB-C. Although Relax includes two 0.5-watt speakers, connecting external headphones or speakers via either Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm jack is recommended for better sound. Pixel Tunes measures 13.5 x 15.6 x 2.6 centimeters and weighs 315 grams.
Pricing and availability
The Relax Pixel Tunes CD player is available at Sincere Store Japan for ¥12,980 ($82). While the shop only ships within Japan, imports through platforms such as ZenMarket is possible, though that involves additional costs.
