Music player inspired by Apple iPod Nano launches with metal casing for $79
Following the MD3 DAC ($149 on Amazon), Fosi Audio introduces another affordable hi-fi gadget, the DAP Neo Modern Classic MP3 Player. Measuring 97 × 47 × 10.6 millimeters and weighing 75 grams, the music player is significantly more compact than a smartphone, yet still offers a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The integrated headphone amplifier offers a respectable output power of 129 mW. Alternatively, headphones and speakers can also be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth, although only the SBC codec is supported. The housing features a metal frame and a glass back. The front houses a rotary wheel that is somewhat reminiscent of the Click Wheel on the Apple iPod Nano. This wheel is intended to make scrolling quickly through lists much more convenient – ideal for browsing playlists or an album overview.
The user interface is similarly minimalist to that of an Apple iPod. Music can be stored on a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 256 GB, but the music player does not offer streaming features. In addition to MP3, the player also supports FLAC, WAV, APE, M4A and DSD. The 2.4-inch display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.
Pricing and availability
The Fosi Audio DAP Neo Modern Classic MP3 Player is available now for $79.99 from the manufacturer's online store with free shipping. The music player comes with a 16 GB memory card, but supports microSD cards with up to 256 GB of storage.
