Top-rated smartphone sound quality thanks to a partnership with Bose

With the F9 Ultra, Poco is once again partnering with Bose to further enhance the audio system. Two symmetrical speakers are supported by a separate subwoofer, forming a 2.1 system. Our measurements confirm the positive first impression: The smartphone plays very loudly, with a balanced sound, and offers a surprising amount of depth in the lower frequencies for its size.
The partnership with Bose isn’t limited to a prominent logo on the back. Bose handles the acoustic tuning, while Poco combines two speakers with a separate subwoofer. Naturally, the compact design can’t deliver true deep bass, but the fundamental tone gains audible volume. As a result, music, movies, and games sound fuller. Our speaker measurements confirm this as well. Midrange and treble are reproduced with presence and are largely balanced; the level drops more sharply only in the upper treble range. At the same time, the F9 Ultra achieves a high maximum volume. The sound system is thus clearly one of the smartphone’s strengths.
Poco is also generous when it comes to wireless audio. In addition to SBC and AAC, it supports aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, LDAC, and LHDC 5.0. It also supports LC3 and Bluetooth LE Audio. Furthermore, Auracast is built in. The F9 Ultra can stream its audio output as a broadcast to compatible receivers. However, to receive third-party Auracast broadcasts, the system requires connected “compatible headphones.” In our test with the Galaxy Buds4 and the Nothing Headphones (1) Pro, we were unable to use this feature, even though the headphones support Auracast.
There isn’t much missing here. While the F9 Ultra doesn’t offer a 3.5-mm headphone jack, given its extensive Bluetooth support and excellent built-in speakers, the smartphone still delivers a very well-rounded audio experience, and USB-C is available for wired audio output.
