Sony releases new updates to WH-1000XM4C and WH-CH730N headphones

Last month, Sony released the WH-1000XM4C, six years after the arrival of the original WH-1000XM4. As we discussed at the time, Sony has positioned the WH-1000XM4C as a cheaper entry point into the WH-1000X series. To that end, the WH-1000XM4C start at $299.99.
Now, the company has started rolling out its first firmware update for its budget-oriented pair of WH-1000X over-ear headphones. Specifically, Sony has updated the WH-1000XM4C to Firmware 1.1.2, which it is distributing via its Sound Connect app.

In a support document, it clarifies that the update introduces two overarching changes. Both vague in nature, Sony claims that Firmware 1.1.2 enhanced system software security features. Additionally, the new firmware is said to improve 'other functions', without offering any further explanation.
Simultaneously, Sony has updated the WH-CH730N to new firmware as well. Another September release, the WH-CH730N is even cheaper than the WH-1000XM4C (curr. $178 on Amazon). Similarly, Sony states that Firmware 1.0.4 only improves 'operational stability'. Please see our WH-1000XM4C launch article for more details about Sony's cheapest pair of WH-1000X series.
