Astrotoo packs display and mechanical keys into retro speaker
Divoom is best known for gadgets with pixel displays, and with Astrotoo, the manufacturer is now introducing one of its highest-quality speakers to date. At first glance, the gadget looks a little like a retro all-in-one, as the front houses not only a 3.95-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels, but also three mechanical buttons.
These buttons allow users to control music playback and volume. The display can be configured via the free Divoom smartphone app. The screen can display not only information about the music being played, but also photos and a range of widgets showing calendar entries, weather forecasts or stock prices, among other things. Music can either be streamed to the speaker via Bluetooth 6.0 or stored on a microSD card, which can be inserted into the slot on the right side of the housing.
Divoom uses a single full-range speaker paired with an amplifier with an output power of 20 watts. The speaker fires upward, but according to Divoom, it delivers balanced sound that sounds best at a distance of 0.6 to 1 meter. The speaker is significantly more powerful than the one in the Divoom MiniToo ($59.99 on Amazon), although Astrotoo is also significantly larger, measuring 10.6 x 10.8 x 13.5 centimeters. The 640-gram speaker has a built-in battery that is said to provide six hours of battery life.
Pricing and availability
The Divoom Astrotoo desktop speaker is now available for $199.99 from the manufacturer's online store. Shipping is free. The speaker is available in white, green or pink.
