Xiaomi Redmi K Pad 2: New compact tablet launching with major upgrades over older model

A few months have passed since Digital Chat Station last appeared to discuss Xiaomi's next compact tablet release. Now, the same leaker has returned focus to what is currently thought of as the Redmi K Pad 2. For context, the tablet will be positioned as a direct successor to last year's Redmi K Pad that Xiaomi sold globally as the Pad Mini.
According to Digital Chat Station, the Redmi K Pad 2 will retain an 8.8-inch IPS display rather than adopting an OLED panel like the RedMagic Astra. In that sense, the Redmi K Pad 2 will be similar to Apple's iPad mini (curr. $399 on Amazon). However, Xiaomi's next compact tablet will also retain a 165 Hz refresh rate and a 3,008 x 1,880-pixel native resolution to outperform Apple's equivalent in both regards.
Apparently, Xiaomi will upgrade the Redmi K Pad from MediaTek's Dimensity 9400+ to its newer Dimensity 9500 alternative. According to our benchmarks, this change should bring a 28% performance improvement to the Redmi K Pad 2 over its predecessor alone. Digital Chat Station adds that a 20% battery uplift is on the cards as well, with Xiaomi swapping a 7,500 mAh capacity for a circa 9,000 mAh equivalent. Currently, the same leaker anticipates that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi K Pad 2 in China by the end of June at the latest.
