Xiaomi has now released the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus in China after plenty of pre-launch rumours. While many of those focused on the device itself, a few appeared to reveal initial details about Xiaomi's global release plans. To that end, early firmware looks to have highlighted a few hardware changes that Xiaomi has planned for the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus' global model, full details of which we have covered separately.
Additionally, this firmware indicates that Xiaomi will be shaking up its Poco series to accommodate a Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus rebrand. For context, the Poco X8 was previously associated with the Redmi Note 15 Pro, in part because of the similarities between both of their predecessors. However, the latter's 2510ERA8BC model number actually relates to the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus, not the Redmi Note 15 Pro.
Moreover, initial Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus firmware suggests that Xiaomi has assigned the model number '2510EPC8BG' to the Poco M8 Pro. For reference, the Poco M7 Pro (curr. $259 on Amazon) combines hardware from the Redmi Note 14 5G sold in China with its Indian counterpart. Thus, rebranding the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus as the Poco M8 Pro would represent a considerable repositioning for the Poco M series globally.
At this stage, it remains to be seen where this leaves the Poco X series, too. Regardless, the Poco M8 Pro appears set to receive a 6,500 mAh battery with 100 W wired charging. Furthermore, the handset looks to contain an OmniVision OVX8000 primary camera found in the Xiaomi 14 Civi and the Redmi Note 14 Pro, as well as an 8 MP OmniVision OV08F ultra-wide-angle camera shared with the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus.
