Valor Mortis launches Oct 13 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC & Day-One Game Pass Ultimate. Explore One More Level's Napoleonic Soulslike with 60 FPS performance modes!

Developer One More Level and publisher Lyrical Games have launched Valor Mortis, a first-person Soulslike set in a supernatural reimagining of the Napoleonic Wars. The game is out worldwide today, October 13, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. It is also a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The release marks the first wholly owned IP from the Polish studio behind the Ghostrunner series.

Story, setting & voice cast

Players control William Dowsett, an Englishman who volunteered for Napoleon's Grande Armée and is pulled back from a battlefield grave. A plague is spreading across Europe, and William carries its corrupting power. Former comrades have become plague-ridden monsters, including members of Napoleon's Eternal Guard. César Award-winning actor Vincent Cassel voices Napoleon, who speaks to William through a mysterious bond inside his head. James Alexander voices William, and Jennifer English plays the Shrike, a rebel leader fighting Napoleon's empire in occupied Eastern Europe.

Combat systems & supernatural transmutations

Combat is stamina-based and built around parrying, dashing, and finishing moves, with a posture system that rewards well-timed parries. William can switch between weapons such as rapiers, a claymore, a flintlock pistol, and a two-handed musket. In his left hand, he wields supernatural transmutations, including fire, which sets enemies burning; shield, which absorbs damage and releases a shockwave; and grapple, which helps him traverse the environment.

Progression, currency & campaign length

William drops his Catalysts, the upgrade currency, where he dies, and spends them at Lanterns to improve stats such as health, stamina, and parry. The campaign runs about 20 hours.

Pricing, editions & performance modes

The Standard Edition costs $39.99 after the studio lowered the price ahead of launch. The Deluxe Edition costs $59.99 and includes a story DLC due in 2027 plus cosmetic packs. There are no pre-orders or early access, and the game is single-player only. PlayStation Plus Premium members get a 90-minute trial that carries progress over if they buy the game. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Quality mode targets dynamic 4K at 30 FPS, while Performance mode targets 60 FPS at the same resolution. Xbox Series S also gets a 60 FPS Performance mode, and PS5 Pro owners get higher resolution and improved visuals.
