Unproven PS5 State of Play leaks offer huge surprises including Silent Hill reveal and a closer look at the PlayStation 5 console
Two intriguing and unproven leaks posted on 4chan have been sharing the supposed details of the expected upcoming PS5 State of Play event. The shorter but more recent post claims the event will take place on August 6 and will include details about Silent Hill, Miles Morales, Metal Gear Solid, and even Fortnite for the PS5. It seems reasonably believable until the OP states “Sony Santa Monica confirms that there will be a God of War sequel, little CGI trailer”. While there are many hoping that there will be some sort of God of War reveal soon (with a new rumor suggesting a late 2021 release for the sequel), a recent social media post by the game’s director seemed to nip that suggestion in the bud before it could grow too much.
A slightly older and more detailed post about the State of Play event, which certainly requires a good pinch of salt before wading through, offers a long list of reveals and trailers and even includes runtimes for a bit of added “credibility”. According to this post, there will be a whole bunch of game reveals to kick the event off, including news about Metal Slug Returns, Call of Duty Black Ops Vietnam, and Red Dead Redemption 2, before a bit about the PS Now service is offered up.
Then there is another grouping of big reveals, with an apparent Miles Morales Collector Edition trailer (rumored Spider-Man remaster bundle perhaps?), Sackboy, Godfall, and then two potentially big PS5 hardware-related clips following them. Apparently, we will get a whole 3 m 20 s of an overview of the next-gen console followed by 1 m 50 s of backwards compatibility news. There is plenty of time for Sony to make some big reveals here, including the PS5 UI, connectivity on the rear, and how far back backwards compatibility actually goes. If that isn’t enough, reveals for Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Mortal Kombat 11, and Demons Souls wrap up the event.
Well almost, because right at the end, there’s allegedly a 3 m 50 s trailer for the PS5, which could be just an enhanced version of the already released hardware trailer, or something completely more exciting instead. It’s possible Sony might even announce the PS5 pre-order information and price at this point, although so many reveals in one State of Play event could be quite overwhelming for the average PS5 fan. According to this particular unsubstantiated source, the main event will actually take place on Monday August 10. The two full lists of purported reveals and trailers can be seen in the screenshots below.
