A rumor has started growing that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will come packaged with a special PS5 remaster of the 2018 hit Spider-Man game from Insomniac. According to a post on Reddit, which is sourced from a print magazine of Game Informer, the superhero bundle will feature the much-hyped Miles Morales title and a version of Spider-Man “that takes full advantage of the PS5 hardware”. Spider-Man scenes were famously used in the PS5 SSD comparison test with a PS4 Pro, so if this rumor is true, fans can expect much faster and smoother swinging for Spidey as he traverses Manhattan.
PlayStation 5 price tags have been the subject of discussion yet again, with prices of US$299 for the Digital Edition and US$399 for the Blu-ray edition being optimistically offered. According to one commentator, Sony would take a huge hit on the PS5 Digital Edition: around US$125 lost per unit. However, the same person also said the company would lose US$37 per unit on the Blu-ray console, which has already been estimated to cost around US$450 for production (US$399 price tag = US$51 loss). So as always, take these PS5 price “leaks” with a good pinch of salt.
However, the good news for Sony, as it is more than likely the company will take a considerable loss when it comes to selling the PS5, is that sources in the know reckon it’s going to sell big time over a long period, giving the company the chance to recoup its losses via games and subscriptions. The minimum figure suggested for a five-year cycle was 120 million units shipped, with a potential high shipment figure of 170 million consoles being mentioned. This shortened life cycle for the PS5 could indicate a planned early introduction for the PlayStation 6 or some other gaming-related service that the PlayStation creator currently has in development.
