Entertainment Weekly has posted an exclusive image from Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Insomniac Games that has got gamers thrilled about the PS5’s graphics capabilities. The shot shows Miles Morales crouching in a typical superhero pose, with traffic behind him, and his hand balanced precariously in a puddle.
It’s the puddle that deserves some extra attention strangely enough, because according to Insomniac Games Community Director James Stevenson that is a ray-traced puddle. In fact all the glistening and reflective puddles in the shot are apparently ray-traced. Naysayers who suspect the image was taken from a super-powerful PC can see in the bottom left-hand corner of the EW image (see below) the tell-tale words “captured on PS5”, so there will be no occurrence of a Puddlegate-like scandal here at least.
It may be a bit unfair to compare PS5 game screenshots with PS4 ones, especially as this particular image from Spider-Man: Miles Morales might actually be a specially prepared promo picture as opposed to an in-game screenshot. But the comparison with the images from 2018’s Spider-Man should certainly have gamers chomping at the bit about trying out the PS5’s Miles Morales version come holiday 2020.
