Microsoft and Sony are ramping up the hype around their next-generation consoles ahead of their releases later this year, but a new survey conducted by "pop culture agency" Experience12 has revealed the successes of their endeavours so far. For clarity, Experience12 surveyed 3,000 people through MCM Comic Con online channels between June 25 to July 2. Of those 3,000 people, 1,740 were male, 1,140 were female, 60 were non-conforming, and 30 were transgender. Neither Experience12 nor MCV/DEVELOP have revealed what happened to the remaining 30 responders, though. Additionally, 80% of those surveyed were aged between 18-34.
The main finding of the survey was that 84% of people were "most excited about" the PS5, compared to 15% who were more interested in the Xbox Series X. Experience12 has not published any reasoning behind this gulf in preferences. However, MCV/DEVELOP notes that the low percentage for the Xbox Series X could be because of Microsoft's cross-generation policy between the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Additionally, 37% of respondents claimed that they planned to purchase a next-generation console at launch, while a further 9% intended to buy either the PS5 or Xbox Series X within a month of their launches. Another 38% of respondents said that they hoped to purchase one of the new consoles by summer 2021, leaving 16% of respondents who had no immediate plans to acquire either next-generation console.
Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently the most-anticipated next-generation game, with 43% of respondents reporting it to be the game at the top of their wishlists. Marvel's Avengers, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster, Dying Light 2 and Halo Infinite rounded off the top 5 most anticipated games, with Marvel's Avengers being the most popular title among 15% of respondents.
