Silent Hill fans have been speculating over the possibility that Hideo Kojima was preparing a new game in the series, potentially Silent Hills, for release on the PlayStation 5. A teaser tweet from indie game studio Blue Box sparked much of the speculation, leading the firm’s head to post a somewhat emotional video to play down any connection.

A now deleted tweet posted by the Twitter account for indie game studio Blue Box last week has been the source of much discussion about the potential for a new Silent Hill game coming to the PS5. The company, which is based in the Netherlands, has been developing a survival horror title that is currently known as Abandoned, although this is apparently a working title. A teaser tweet from Blue Box asked followers what they thought the real name of the game was, offering up the clue “first letter S, last letter L”. Many instantly presumed the answer was Silent Hill, although "Survival" and "Sigil" have also been suggested as titles.

The conspiracy theories claiming that the game’s director, Hasan Kahraman, was actually Hideo Kojima in disguise have been reaching fever pitch lately. As pointed out in a Bloomberg article by Jason Schreier, there seemed to be a lot of things linking the makers of Abandoned with the highly respected Metal Gear designer. Kojima has frequently been associated with Silent Hill, especially thanks to contributions to the series such as his P.T. horror game and proposed plans for Silent Hills, which was canceled by Konami in 2015. Game forum users and redditors have been practically convinced that Abandoned was actually a new Silent Hill installment, with Kojima playing an elaborate hoax to keep expectant fans on their toes.

However, there has been a new twist to the tale because of an emotional video post created by Blue Box’s Kahraman. In the clip he states that he is “not really associated with Hideo Kojima”, “not an actor”, and that he is “not working on Silent Hill”. Kahraman looks visibly bothered in the clip, gulping at one point, and he looks tired – arguably kept up late at night by all the pressure and attention that has now been cast his way. Remarkably, while many have accepted this is simply a game dev trying to not upset hardcore Silent Hill fans by allowing the speculation to perpetuate, there are still some who are convinced that this is another example of Kojima’s trickster mind at play, as he has hired actors in the past for his ruses.
