Tokyo Game Show 2026 cancels final day

Tokyo Game Show organizer CESA has canceled the fifth and final day of TGS 2026, scheduled for Monday, September 21, as Typhoon Dujuan, also designated Typhoon No. 25, approaches Japan. In an official notice published September 19, CESA cited forecasts of strengthening wind and rain from the afternoon onward, along with the risk of transportation disruptions that could make it difficult for attendees, exhibitors, and staff to get home safely. 

The organizer said protecting everyone's safe return home was its highest priority in making the call and apologized to those who had planned to attend the fifth day. Sunday, September 20, now stands as the final physical day of the show on the Makuhari Messe floor in Chiba, with no changes to its scheduled hours.

A first in 30 years

TGS 2026 marks the event's 30th anniversary and was set to run as its first-ever five-day show, expanding from the usual four-day format to mark the milestone. According to CESA's announcement, this is the first time in Tokyo Game Show's 30-year history that a day has been canceled after the event was already underway. 

The loss of September 21 trims the anniversary edition back to four days. CESA confirmed Sunday will proceed as scheduled, though it cautioned that some facilities or content could still be modified or canceled for safety depending on conditions and urged attendees to monitor weather and transit updates and allow extra travel time.

Refunds and streaming plans

CESA is issuing full refunds for tickets purchased for September 21, with buyers directed to follow the refund process set by whichever platform they bought through and further details promised on the official site. Tickets for September 20 are not refundable, since that day is still going ahead. CESA said it is working to salvage part of the canceled programming and that some September 21 stage events may be streamed online as official broadcasts, pending confirmation of venue safety. 

Sony has separately confirmed, in an official statement, that the hands-on demos and streaming events planned for its PlayStation booth on September 21 will not take place. CESA said it would continue coordinating with relevant parties and issue further updates as the typhoon's path becomes clearer.
