The classic $40 Casio Royale gets an overhaul with a new leather strap upgrade
Casio is adding a new model to its popular AE-1200WH series - the AE-1200WHL-5AV. The model, often referred to as the "Casio Royale," is best known for its rugged design, affordability, and extensive world time features. The latest version comes with the core characteristics of the original while offering a more refined and formal-looking option with a leather band.
The AE-1200WHL-5AV features the same reliable 100-meter water resistance and 10-year battery life that the AE-1200WH comes with. Weighing in at 39 grams, the new model has the same dimensions (45 x 42.1 x 12.5 mm) as its resin and steel counterparts.
In terms of functionality, the AE-1200WHL-5AV continues to provide a variety of features, including a world map display with 4-city multi-time, a 1/100-second stopwatch, and five daily alarms. The watch also includes an amber LED light, a countdown timer, and a full auto-calendar set until the year 2099. It also has an accuracy of +/-30 seconds per month, which means it is pretty reliable.
The original AE-1200WH was first released in 2012, with a starting price around $40. Its affordability and practical feature set made it a favorite among both budget-conscious consumers and watch fans.
Set for an October 2024 release in Asia, excluding Japan, the AE-1200WHL-5AV will retail in Singapore at S$65 (~$49.53), making it slightly more expensive than previous models. However, the new leather band definitely adds a more premium feel without compromising on the practicality that defines the AE-1200WH series.
