TCL Thunderbird U9: New 4K gaming monitor comes with mini LED and 2,304 dimming zones
The manufacturer TCL is also well known as a manufacturer of monitors and has a new model on offer with the Thunderbird U9. This is a monitor based on mini-LED technology, which offers many small LEDs, that can be controlled in different zones - this allows the backlighting to be precisely controlled. The TCL Thunderbird U9 is advertised with 2,304 dimming zones, allowing high-contrast content to be displayed accurately. TCL's maximum brightness is 1,600 cd/m², with 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 color space coverage.
It is a high-resolution monitor with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at 27 inches. The maximum refresh rate is specified at 165 Hz, which should make the model well-suited for video games - in fact, the monitor also supports FreeSync Premium and G-Sync. The panel supports 10-bit color depth (8-bit + FRC). The interfaces include DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1, and the TCL Thunderbird U9 can also receive image content via USB Type-C. The latter also supports Power Delivery and can supply up to 90 watts to the source device. A USB hub is available and the new monitor comes with a KVM switch. This allows the connected USB devices to be switched together with the image source. The obligatory 3.5-mm audio jack is included, as is a sound system consisting of two 3-watt speakers. Additionally, RGB lighting is also available.
The TCL Thunderbird U9 is now available in China at a price of around US$520. Information on a possible global launch is not yet available.
