27B2U6903: Philips releases new 4K monitor with innovative presence sensor and Thunderbolt 4 ports
Philips has started selling the 27B2U6903, which has already been awarded iF Design and RedDot Winner awards. As the company's promotional material suggests, the 27B2U6903 is a compact business monitor rather than a new gaming monitor under its Evnia brand like the Evnia 34M2C8600 (curr. $679.99 on Amazon). Specifically, the 27B2U6903 spans 27-inches across, within which Philips has installed a high-resolution but slow IPS panel.
In this case, Philips has included a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) panel that outputs at 60 Hz. Additionally, the 27B2U6903 is said to deliver 350 nits of full panel brightness with a matte finish to diffuse reflections while also offering 96% and 110% sRGB and NTSC colour space coverage. On top of that, the monitor has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 4 ms GtG response times and 178º (H)/178º (V) viewing angles.

Although the panel itself is nothing to write home about, Philips has included a few extras to help distinguish the 27B2U6903 from other business monitors. For instance, the 27B2U6903 has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports that can recharge connected devices at up to 100 W or daisy chain to a second monitor as needed. Moreover, the monitor has a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and a USB hub consisting of four Type-A ports and a USB Type-C connection.
Furthermore, Philips has included a presence sensor, which it markets as the 'PowerSensor 2'. Supposedly, the PowerSensor 2 allows the 27B2U6903 to automatically wake a connected laptop or PC when someone approaches or lock the same device when someone walks away. Please note that PowerSensor 2 is only compatible with Windows 11. Currently, Philips charges £449.99 for the 27B2U6903 in the UK and €549 in the Eurozone. Please see the company's website for further details.
