A new Aktiia app-based blood pressure measuring solution is on the way, having recently obtained a CE Mark in Europe. The technology uses your smartphone camera rather than a traditional cuff or wearable device. It is said to provide medically accurate readings, backed by a study carried out with a Swiss university.

Aktiia has announced the release window for its app-based blood pressure measuring solution, G2C. The company specializes in blood pressure measuring solutions and already offers a blood pressure tracking wearable, the Aktiia Bracelet, which launched in 2020.

The new G2C solution is based on the company's CALFREE technology, allowing you to use your smartphone camera to determine your blood pressure, without the need for the traditional cuff or any kind of calibration. Users can take measurements by placing their fingertip over the camera for 90 seconds. The technology then uses generative AI backed by over 11 billion data points to calculate your blood pressure and heart rate.

Aktiia claims that these blood pressure readings are accurate, having conducted a study in partnership with Lausanne University Hospital. However, data from this research has not been shared. The technology is a CE mark class II medical product, meaning it meets health and safety requirements in the EU and that the data collected is medically accurate. How the measurements obtained using this solution will compare to results from other wearables like the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 (curr. $249.72 at Amazon), remains to be seen. The new app-based CALFREE technology is due to launch at some point in 2025, though an exact release date has yet to be announced.
