Withings reveals BPM Pro 2 as next-generation blood pressure monitor
Withings has announced the BPM Pro 2, a new portable cellular blood pressure monitor. While it is designed for at-home use, it will be sold to healthcare professionals to use with their patients. The company claims this is the first device of its kind and describes it as a next-generation model, tracking various health metrics and providing wider remote patient monitoring tools.
The BPM Pro 2 can measure heart rate and blood pressure. Withings is also advertising the ability to connect a 1-lead ECG, which would allow for the detection of atrial fibrillation, though this is subject to FDA clearance. Measurements are displayed on the device's built-in LCD color display, where users can choose to share this data with a healthcare provider. Other features include notifications suggesting users retake a measurement following an abnormal result and an on-screen guide ensuring users observe best practices when taking blood pressure readings.
On top of this, the new Patient Insights feature can be used to collect further information from the patient via a questionnaire, answerable on the integrated display. Withings suggests that questions could be asked about a patient's sleep patterns, symptoms and medication routine, adding further context to the biometric measurements. The Withings BPM Pro 2 is planned to launch this November. However, it appears that the company is still awaiting FDA clearance; any delays in this process would likely cause the release to be pushed back. As the Withings BPM Pro 2 will not be available to purchase for personal use, you could consider the Withings BPM Connect (curr. $99.95 at Amazon).
