Nubia's chief executive officer (CEO), Ni Fei, seems committed to being a one-executive hype machine for the upcoming replacement for this OEM's Red Magic 3s gaming phone. First, it was he who broke the news that this phone would have a display with a ground-breaking 144Hz refresh rate. Next, he also confirmed this phone's 5G nature, which will be a first for this brand. Now, he has also confirmed that this device can equal the highest-end of new Samsung flagships in terms of RAM.
On the other hand, Ni Fei did not mention what this leaves the base model with - could it be as much as 12GB, as with the rest of the Galaxy S20 series? This is not certain as yet. However, it is looking much more likely that the Red Magic 5G, as this next-gen phone is to be called, will in fact ship with a new 80-watt (W) charging standard, even though a prominent Weibo leaker linked it with a 55W standard.
However, should the higher rate truly be in place, it seems it will involve a system that, like OnePlus' Warp Charge or Huawei's Super Charge, only works properly with power bricks and cables from the OEM. Therefore, should a prospective Red Magic 5G owner leave their own original accessories behind, they may be out of luck when wishing to fast-charge their phone.
Nevertheless, this upcoming gaming phone may just have enough advantages to outweigh this possible risk - especially if it comes with the physical spinning fan found in its 2019 counterparts. Meanwhile, in less encouraging Nubia news, it has had to cancel the launch event for this same phone due to the prevailing coronavirus epidemic, which in turn has shut the entire MWC 2020 show with which it was associated down.
However, the company now reportedly intends to replace the press conference in question with one live-streamed from its own location. Therefore, Android fans on the hunt for a phone with specs and esthetics to go with their gaming PCs may soon find what they're looking for in the Red Magic 5G.
