Nubia will soon launch a 5G variant for its popular Red Magic gaming smartphone lineup, and the leaks up until now point to a very impressive list of specs. First, we found out about the 144 Hz AMOLED display, which apparently is the new standard for gaming smartphones. It is not really clear if this will make that much of a big difference, since the upcoming handheld will also integrate low-latency screencast capabilities, making it easy to play on larger screens as demonstrated by Nubia president Ni Fei last week. To keep fans hyped up, Fei recently posted a screencap with some impressive battery stats.
Even though we do not really get to see the capacity of the battery, a current of 9.6 amperes combined with a voltage of 8.4 volts reveal that the wired charger will allow for 80 W power flows via the USB PD standard. For reference, the fastest charger available right now comes from Oppo’s Reno Ace model with 65 W SuperVOOC charging. Nubia promises quite a bit faster charging at 80 W, yet later this year we are also supposed to get a 100 W version from Xiaomi, plus a 120 W charger from Vivo.
Other rumored specs for the upcoming Nubia Red Magic 5G include a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 SoC coupled with as mucha s 16 GB of RAM, a triple-cam setup on the back and a dual-mode 5G modem. More info about this model will most likely be unveiled at MWC next month.
