The run-up to the launch of the newest addition to the Red Magic gaming phone line had involved some leaks pointing to as much as 16GB of RAM in this 144 hertz (Hz) display device. However, it only exhibited 8 to 12GB SKUs on its launch. The brand's owner Nubia has now corrected this, however, by releasing a variant with this spec onto online stores such as JD.
Furthermore, this top-end option is only available in the form of a limited-edition Transparent (or, according to JD, "Deuterium") version. Therefore, these phones have a rear panel that highlight their internals, as with the Mi flagship editions along the same lines.
In the Red Magic 5G's case, this means showing its real spinning fan, as well as the metallic channels through with it draws its air, with some embellishments compared to 'normal' units. However, the effect is not in fact authentic: the "Transparency" here is achieved with a sticker - although the components it is supposed to celebrate are indeed in the right places.
This is a slight shame, as a truly clear backing would allow the user to watch the fan going while the phone is in use. Nubia has priced this new flavor of Red Magic 5G at 5199 yuan (~US$736). Alternatively, there is a 12GB RAM/256GB variant of the same, which goes for 4599 yuan (~US$651). By contrast, a base 8/128GB model is 3799 yuan ($538).
