Rumor | Xiaomi Mi Display monitor with 27-inch transparent OLED from Samsung supposedly in the works
It seems transparency might be the next fad in regard to tech, with news about transparent televisions, smartphones, and now monitors starting to crop up more regularly. It’s believed that Xiaomi will be introducing a new 27-inch transparent monitor, likely as part of its popular Mi Display range, at some point in 2021.
Although some sources seem to be unsure whether the report is about a television or a monitor (or perhaps even a dual-purpose TV monitor), the size of the 27-inch Xiaomi transparent device does suggest it would be more likely marketed as a high-end desktop PC monitor. Along with the transparency unique selling point, it’s alleged Samsung will be providing the necessary OLED panels for the Xiaomi device.
Undoubtedly, Xiaomi will wait to see how the Mi TV Lux sells before forging too far ahead with further transparent devices. The Chinese-language report suggests it might be the latter half of next year before a transparent Super Mi Display surfaces, and even then it’s likely to be quite pricey. For example, the company’s Lux set is currently priced at 49,999 yuan (US$7,308).
