Xiaomi takes on Asus with rumored 240 Hz and 360 Hz external gaming monitors with prices from just 999 yuan (US$148)
Asus recently unveiled the ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN monitor that is accompanied by the tagline “the world’s fastest esports gaming monitor”. With the considerably high refresh rate, it can be easily seen why hardcore games and esports enthusiasts would be attracted to such a device, and now it seems that Xiaomi would like a piece of that particular action.
According to a report out of China, via XiaomiToday, the company has plans to release new 24.5-inch external gaming monitors that will offer customers the choice between a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 360 Hz refresh rate. While the same original source claims prices will start at 999 yuan (US$148), although that is cheap, it cannot be fairly compared directly to the US$699 needed to buy a ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN unit.
For starters, that low price will undoubtedly be for an entry-level 240 Hz model, and it is currently unknown what other differences there will be between SKUs. Also, this is a domestic market estimate, and it is well known how expensive Xiaomi products get once they leave China. However, it can be fairly presumed that Xiaomi’s 360 Hz gaming monitor would certainly challenge the Asus effort in regard to affordability.
It’s expected these new Xiaomi monitors will feature IPS panels manufactured by AU Optronics. Little else has been mentioned about the supposed monitors apart from that they should appear on the Chinese market in November (11/11 or “Singles’ Day” has been stated).
