The popular streaming app SiriusXM has announced a partnership with Google by which its subscribers can start to control their content using the Assistant. This may involve calling up specific channels, which are available in their hundreds on SiriusXM and cover a wide variety of categories, including music, news, lifestyle, sports and entertainment.
The service also offers video content, which will also become available to those Google smart-home products with screens, such as the Nest Hub Max. SiriusXM customers will also be able to start and control their content by activating their Assistant-powered speakers from the same brand.
Google and SiriusXM also intend to set up promotional tie-ins with the purchase of new Home or Nest Hub smart speakers. For example, eligible buyers may be offered 3 months' worth of access to the platform for free, whereas pre-existing customers may get the same if they upgrade to a SiriusXM All Access or Premier Streaming account.
This new partnership should take effect from next week (starting November 4, 2019) and will roll out to English-language users in the US and Canada at first.
