Lenovo has launched the Smart Display 7, which, like its predecessors, is a smart speaker with an in-built touchscreen. This new version has its display above its speakers this time, although they are still 10-watt (W) drivers. It also has Google Assistant, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and an ambient color sensor.

Lenovo has updated its Smart Display series with a 7-inch variant. This spec, like its 8 and 10 forebears, is reflected in its name. However, the new device makes quite a departure from the original 2 SKUs in that its touch-enabled display is located above its speakers this time, rather than to one side of them,

The Smart Display 7's appearance is also upgraded in the sense it has an attractive new finish for these dual 1.5-inch speakers' covering, which makes the entire product look more like a Google Nest-branded device. Its entire housing is also 6.1 inches at its deepest, making it slimmer than either the 8 or 10.

This new model has Wi-Fi 802.11ac rather than Ethernet to connect with a user's other devices or smart-home system. It also has a 2MP camera above the touchscreen in order to identify and recognize said users, although it can be covered using a physical shutter if desired. It also has an RGB sensor, which analyzes the ambient color of its surrounding decor so as to tune its screen output to match.

Therefore, the Lenovo Smart Display 7 can blend easily into a given room while fulfilling its destiny, which is to be a Google Assistant vehicle for the home. This can involve generating spoken reminders about user schedules, playing content (videos included) on request, controlling a smart home as a hub and generally being a helpful smart speaker.
