Google has just launched its latest smart-home product, the Nest Audio speaker, in several markets; now, WinFuture asserts that Xiaomi aims to provide an answer to it in Europe with the Mi Smart Speaker. This product has been available in China and India for a while, and may be popular there due to its range of functions at a good price.
The Mi Smart Speaker is a Google Assistant vehicle in a cylindrical form-factor. It is powered by the quad-core Amlogic A113X SoC and half a gigabyte of RAM, and has two "wide-range" mics that set its LED accent off while they are on and "listening". It is rated for dual-band Wi-Fi and is also a Chromecast receiver.
The speaker can also act as a "master control" for all other smart-home products in its vicinity. Therefore, it may indeed prove a compelling alternative to Google's Home or Nest speakers, particularly as it started at the equivalent of ~US$34 in India. However, WinFuture claims it will retail for €52.99 (~$62) in Spain and €59.95 (~$70) in Portugal on its launch in these 2 countries.
