Spooked by Alexa? Samsung says it has no plans to sell the Galaxy Home Mini separately
In a move that's likely to disappoint both Samsung fans and those looking forward to a new entrant in the smart speaker segment, Samsung quashed hopes that the Galaxy Home Mini would be available to a wider market. In a text conversation with a customer, a company representative stated that Samsung has no plans to sell the Galaxy Home Mini separately.
This means that Galaxy S20 pre-orders in South Korea remain the only way to get your hands on the elusive smart speaker.
This is only the latest in an unusual series of developments surrounding the smart speaker. The Galaxy Home lineup was actually announced two years ago at the launch of the Galaxy Note 9. However, after repeated delays, the Home and Home Mini appeared set for a 2020 release time frame.
Two weeks ago, Samsung issued a statement that it would be launching the Galaxy Home Mini on February 12th. This was, however, quickly taken down without any explanation given. At present it's likely that the Galaxy Home Mini will exist as a limited edition promotional product. The larger Galaxy Home might never make it to the market.
