The Samsung Galaxy Fold's successor could sport an under-display camera.
Fresh leaks about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 indicate that the device's display is likely to be made of ultra-thin glass like the recently launched Galaxy Z Flip. The Fold 2 is also tipped to feature an under-display camera and is expected to launch sometime in July, around the same time as the Galaxy Note 20.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip last week and despite criticism about the display's durability, the phone has been generally well-received. However, the Galaxy Z Flip wasn't meant to be the Galaxy Fold's true successor. We've been hearing for sometime that Samsung is working on a Galaxy Fold 2 for a mid-2020 launch and that it would feature the ultra-thin glass (UTG) tech, Snapdragon 865 SoC, 16 GB of RAM, and a 108 MP camera. Now, XDA Developer's Max Weinbach has managed to further unearth some juicy details about the device.

According to Weinbach, the Galaxy Fold 2 will be codenamed Champ (the original Fold was codenamed Winner), will use the UTG found in the Z Flip, and is also likely to sport an under-display camera within the 7.7-inch Infinity Flex Display. The Galaxy Fold 2 could launch around July around the time of the Galaxy Note 20

In another tweet, Weinbach said that the Fold 2's front cover display will, in fact, be an Infinity V display with the possibility of having either a punch-hole or an under-display camera. A new S Pen is on the anvil as is the Galaxy S20+'s camera setup. Weinbach says that the Galaxy Fold 2 will be available in Blue, Silver, Gold, Pink, and Black color options.

That is quite a bit of information about the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 and we expect Samsung to rectify some of the build quality and availability issues that made the original Galaxy Fold a disastrous launch. While the possibility of having an under-display camera is high, it remains to be seen whether Samsung would take the plunge or settle for a more conventional punch hole. It will be interesting to see how the Galaxy Fold 2 will co-exist besides the Galaxy Z Flip and which form factor the market eventually prefers.
