Strong Xperia 1 III sales in China leave Sony already rubbing shoulders with Apple and Huawei in JD.com top 10 chart
The Sony Xperia 1 III has just been released in China and it has apparently been met with enthusiasm with buyers in that country. A chart produced by JD.com and shared by the well-known leaker ZACKBUKS has shown that even though the Xperia 1 III has only been on the market for a day, it still managed to snatch 10th position in the “5,000-10,000” table.
Heading that particular chart, which is organized into sections depending on the Chinese yuan price of the smartphone, is the iPhone 12. This Apple device has been topping sales charts around the world and is joined by other iPhones such as the 12 mini and 12 Pro here. Unsurprisingly, domestic OEMs like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OnePlus all have representatives and there is even a spot taken by the Samsung Galaxy S20+.
But this is a real win for Sony here. According to a post on Reddit, this is the first time the Japanese company has appeared in these particular charts. Add into the equation that the Sony Xperia 1 III is priced at 8,449 yuan (256 GB model; US$1,334/€1,090/£938) and 9,499 yuan (512 GB model; US$1,491/€1,218/£1,048) and has only had a single day to impress itself on the market, and it's plain to see it's quite a sales feat.
While the high prices for the Xperia 1 III will undoubtedly put some buyers off, it seems there are still plenty of Sony Xperia fans out there willing to cough up for a phone with a 4K 120 Hz display and high-quality camera equipment partly developed by Sony’s “Alpha” experts. There’s even a record of a user based in the US state of Pennsylvania paying up US$1,350 via JD.com just to get hold of the Sony Xperia 1 III now rather than wait for a North America release.
