We have already had some somewhat spurious claims about the Sony Xperia 1 IV (Mark 4) in regard to its possible camera equipment, although the potential end result of all the sensors coming from Sony seems quite believable. It’s very early to make statements about an Xperia 1 IV, especially when much of the world is still waiting for the Xperia 1 III to be released for sale. However, this time around it almost appears like Sony is actually teasing the next-generation flagship smartphone.
In at least three adverts for the Sony WF-1000XM4 headphones there is an early look at a smartphone user connecting their device for some audio utilization. One person looks at his phone while listening to music, another uses his for a video call with his daughter, and a movie fan gets lost in her own world while using her Xperia device and WF-1000XM4 headphones. For some reason, the selfie camera appears to be missing in all three clips when the phone is viewed from the front - even in the top bezel where Xperia flagships usually stash this particular sensor.
Unsurprisingly, some have already noticed this and have come to the only logical conclusion – Sony Xperia 1 IV leaks! Unfortunately, the truth might be more prosaic, as Sony may have simply decided to edit out the selfie camera in these clips for aesthetic purposes. But if there was going to be one likely innovation for the successor to the Xperia 1 III, it would be the presence of under-display camera technology. We will have to wait until mid-2022 at the earliest to find out though.
