Xperia 1 III Pro: Rumor claims Sony is prepping a new smartphone with Snapdragon 888 successor and RAM bump
A new rumor about the Sony Xperia 1 III claims that the Japanese manufacturer has a “Pro” variant of the flagship smartphone in the works. A couple of key specs are offered up in regard to the potential Xperia 1 III Pro, and if they are true then users could expect to have a potent, high-performance smartphone on their hands at some point in the future. The rumor, from the Chinese social media site Weibo, states that this Pro model will come with the successor to the Snapdragon 888 along with 16 GB of RAM.
When translated, the rumor says that the Pro version of the Sony Xperia 1 III will come equipped with the Snapdragon 888 Pro/Plus. At the moment there is some mystery around the Qualcomm processor that has the model number SM8450 in terms of its name, with “Snapdragon 895” surfacing as a current front-runner. Regardless of the name, the Xperia 1 III Pro should be able to compete with any other high-end smartphone released at a similar time.
It is also claimed that the Sony Xperia 1 III Pro will look very similar in design to the regular Xperia 1 III, although there has been mention of the potential of new colors being offered. Sony does have an Xperia PRO already in its range; however, it’s unlikely this rumor pertains to an Xperia PRO II as the professional-use smartphone was only released in January 2021, so it is way too soon for a sequel. It’s more than plausible that an Xperia 1 III Pro could be released in the not-too-distant future, but at the moment many are still waiting for the regular model to go on sale.
