Samsung Display has exhibited various concept devices this week at MWC 2025. In summary, we have reported on the Flex Gaming, Flexible Briefcase, Flex G and even a tri-fold version of the Galaxy Z Flip. While these are firmly concept devices for now, Samsung's display subsidiary may have offered an insight into the state of the Galaxy Z Fold7, too.
Specifically, Samsung Display also brought a new foldable panel for book-style foldables to this year's Mobile World Congress, evidence of which we have embedded below. Although Samsung Display has not provided any other details, the foldable panel does a much better job at hiding its crease than what appears to be a Galaxy Z Fold4 or Galaxy Z Fold5 (curr. $785 - renewed on Amazon).
Typically, Samsung Display only brings concepts to trade shows. However, there are a few clues that it was using the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition to show off its new foldable panel, sales of which Samsung restricts to China and South Korea. For one, the device is missing Under-Display Camera (UDC) technology. Its antenna lines are exact matches for the Special Edition too, as are its bezels, corner radius, bottom speaker, microphone hole and grey frame that can be seen in other pictures shared by Android Central.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is rumoured to be about four months away from being released. In other words, Samsung should have locked in its design by now and its underlying hardware. All things considered, it looks as though the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will serve as a test bed for the Galaxy Z Fold7, which should have a considerably less noticeable display crease than its direct predecessor.
