The Light Phone 3 has been available for pre-order since last June and now the first orders are finally due to be delivered on March 27 - two months late, as delivery was originally scheduled for January. Anyone who pre-orders the Light Phone 3 today via the company's website can expect delivery in June 2025.
The smartphone currently costs $599, but the price is set to rise to $799 after launch. The manufacturer will also ship to Europe, although buyers will have to factor in additional costs for shipping and import sales tax.
Simple hardware in compact housing
The Light Phone 3 is relatively compact with dimensions of 106 x 71.5 x 12 millimeters and a weight of 124 grams. The smartphone has a 3.92-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,240 x 1,080 and a matte surface. The 1,800 mAh battery is said to provide a battery life of at least one day and is charged via USB-C.
The smartphone has a single 50 MP main camera, which takes photos in a standard resolution of 12 MP, as well as an 8 MP selfie camera. The housing is IP54-certified and thus only protected against rain and splashes of water. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is on board, which has two ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores with clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
Minimalism in the software too
The Light Phone 3 does without third-party apps, social networks or a web browser, and instead focuses on basic phone functions such as calling and texting, a timer, a calculator, a simple camera app, a notes app and a simple music and podcast player.
The Light Phone 3 supports LTE and 5G, and can be used as a personal hotspot. Music streaming or third-party messaging services such as WhatsApp are not supported. Emails cannot be retrieved either. On the other hand, the smartphone does have a GPS module, a Bluetooth chip for wireless headphones and an NFC chip, which can be used for contactless payment following an update.
