Samsung's cheapest tablet would've deserved more

When Samsung launches a new tablet, it attracts attention. Unfortunately, we found that the Galaxy Tab A11 barely got any noteworthy upgrades in our recent review. Is the tablet still worth a look?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A11 is genuinely affordable and costs just €230 for the highest configuration, which comes with 128GB of storage and 8GB RAM. This is probably the best choice. In our in-depth review, we tested the smaller 4/64GB version and had to deal with a very slow system. A bit more memory certainly won’t hurt.

Anyhow, one of the biggest upgrades of the Galaxy Tab A11 is the 90Hz screen, which the two-year-old Galaxy Tab A9 didn’t have. This makes inputs feel noticeably quicker, and the perceived performance benefits as well. Otherwise, you need a figurative magnifying glass to find changes on the Galaxy Tab A11 compared to its predecessor. The design is unchanged, and you still have to live with mediocre cameras.

In our review of the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G, we already noted that Samsung limited its update promise with phrasing like "up to" and other legal subtleties. While leaked marketing material for the Galaxy Tab A11 promises 7 years of security updates, we wouldn’t rely on this considering the restrictions on the affordable smartphone. The official website does not include a specific update promise either, which is the case for other devices. Samsung unfortunately did not respond to our inquiry on the topic

That being said, the tablet’s battery is still quite small, while the screen could be brighter and, more importantly, offer a higher resolution. However, an LTE model is available and even the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab A11 is equipped with a GPS module.

For details on how well this works in practice, our final rating and whether the affordable Samsung tablet is ultimately worth it, please check out our comprehensive review of the Galaxy Tab A11.
