Samsung's new high-end gaming monitor, the Odyssey Neo G9 , is finally here. A teaser from earlier suggested that it could hit a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. Based on its spec sheet alone, the Odyssey Neo G9 comes off as little more than an incremental update, but the changes are quite significant.
Nonetheless, it is still one of the best gaming monitors one can buy in 2021. Samsung's asking price of US$2,499 is a tad prohibitive, though. Then again, it gets you a colossal monitor packed to the brim with the best tech available on the market. Pre-orders begin on July 29, and the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 will be available for purchase on August 9.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 feature a 49-inch QHD (5,120 x 1,440) mini LED panel with a refresh rate of 240Hz, 32:9 aspect ratio, 1000R curvature and 1ms response time. It employs over 2,048 local dimming zones to hit the aforementioned brightness levels. It is compatible with both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology is supported, too, meaning that the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 work well with modern-day gaming console via the included HDMI 2.1 ports. Other input options include a DP 1.4 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and two USB ports.
No gaming accessory is complete without pretty lights. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 checks that box, and has a circular LED strip around the back. Samsung says that it will automatically change its colours based on the content displayed, that too without installing any additional software. In the meanwhile, if you're looking for a gaming monitor that a bit more budget friendly, consider the Samsung Odyssey G7.
