Samsung has launched its latest high-end gaming monitors ahead of CES 2020. The new Odyssey G9 and G7 series monitors are the first in the world to feature a dramatic 1000R curved display and also feature the company’s QLED display technology. Rounding out the highlights of a set of impressive spec sheets is a 240 Hz refresh rate and G-sync compatibility across the range to ensure an ultra-smooth, lag free gaming experience.
The G9 model is the flagship display and comes in the one 49-inch configuration. It offers a dual quad HD resolution of 5,120 x 1440 pixels arranged in a 32:9 aspect ratio. It uses the company’s quantum dot technology for a wide color gamut and delivers brightness good enough to achieve an HDR1000 rating and a 1 ms response time. Its striking glossy white exterior includes an Iron Man-like rear lit core that can deliver 52 colors and five lighting effect combinations.
The more affordable G7 models come in 32-inch and 27-inch sizes although both offer the same quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1440 pixels in resolution. They also feature a less dramatic, but more common 16:9 display aspect ratio. Although still HDR compliant, they are limited to an HDR600 rating with a peak brightness of 600 nits which is more than adequate. These models come in a matte black color and also feature a similar rear color core with multiple lighting and effect options.
At this stage, Samsung expects both the Odyssey G9 and G7 gaming monitors to hit the market in Q2 with pricing and regional availability yet to be detailed.
