As is the tradition with Samsung, the launch of new Galaxy A-series smartphones means there will also be new Galaxy M-series models. So following the launch of the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A16 5G, it is no surprise that the Galaxy M16 has popped up on Geekbench.
According to the Geekbench listing, the Galaxy M16 (SM-M166P) is powered by an octa-core processor believed to be the MediaTek Dimensity 6300. This is the same chipset inside the Galaxy A16 5G. It also reveals the phone has 8GB of RAM but there'll likely be other RAM variants too.
The Geekbench result also shows the phone is running Android 14. However, it remains to be seen if it will get the same 6 years of OS upgrades and security updates as the Galaxy A16. It most likely won't be different considering the Galaxy A15 (available on Amazon for $151) and Galaxy M15 are both to receive 4 generations of OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates.
The rest of the specs of the Galaxy M16 are currently unknown, but considering the similarity between the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series, it won't be far-fetched to expect a near identical spec sheet between the Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy M16. However, there might be one significant difference.
Like the Galaxy A16 5G, the Galaxy M16 should have a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED 90Hz display with a notch for a 13MP front-facing camera. It should also have a triple camera setup on the back that includes a 50MP primary camera, a 5MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera.
Despite being an AMOLED display, the Galaxy A16 5G has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and that should be the case with the Galaxy M16, too. It should also have support for storage expansion, an IP54 rating, a plastic back, and a plastic frame.
The significant difference expected between the two phones is likely to be the battery capacity considering the Galaxy A15 has a 5,000mAh launched while the Galaxy M15 has a larger 6,000mAh battery. Samsung might likely stick to the same battery difference once again.
With respect to the launch date, there is no info yet. There was a four-month gap between the Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy M15, but considering the Galaxy A16 arrived earlier, there's a chance the Galaxy M16 isn't far away.
