Samsung Galaxy A16 5G now official with 6 years of OS updates
Samsung has now presented the Galaxy A16 5G, which directly succeeds the Galaxy A15 5G (curr. $179.99 on Amazon) that the company has been selling since for almost a year. As pre-release leaks suggested, Samsung has made a few tweaks between generations. However, many of these are limited to the device's internal hardware.
For example, Samsung has installed a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display this time around, which is 0.2-inches larger diagonally than the equivalent in the Galaxy A15 5G. Correspondingly, the Galaxy A16 5G is larger than its predecessor too, at 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.9 mm versus 160.1 x 76.8 x 8.4 mm. With that being said, the Galaxy A16 5G's weight of 200 g makes it no heavier than last year's model.

Additionally, the Galaxy A16 5G is IP54 certified, which the Galaxy A15 5G lacks. Other areas remain unchanged though, whether that be Samsung's 'Key Island' design motif, a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 25 W wired charging or a camera system that consists of 50 MP primary, 5 MP ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP macro and 13 MP front-facing cameras. On top of that, the larger display outputs at 1080p, 120 Hz and 800 nits (HBM).
Nonetheless, the Galaxy A16 5G will receive six major Android OS updates from Android 14 and One UI 6.1 onwards. Currently, the device is only official in the Netherlands, where Samsung has not confirmed launch pricing. According to one recent leak though, the 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage SKU shown on Samsung's Dutch website will retail for €239.90 across the Eurozone.
