Rumours of new Motorola smartphone surface as future Samsung Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A54 challenger
According to Evan Blass, Motorola is preparing to return to release a new 'Fusion' branded smartphone. For context, the company has not announced anything with Fusion branding since September 2022, when it unveiled the Edge 30 Fusion (curr. $279.99 renewed on Amazon). In summary, Motorola based the Edge 30 Fusion around a 6.55-inch pOLED display, a 4,400 mAh battery, a 50 MP primary camera and a Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G chipset. Reportedly, the Edge 30 Fusion's successor will arrive as the Edge 50 Fusion, skipping the Edge 40 series entirely.
However, the Edge 50 Fusion is rumoured to feature a significantly weaker chipset than its predecessor. Supposedly, Motorola has settled on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a 4 nm octa-core processor we tested last month in the Honor Magic6 Lite. In short, the Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G averages 1.41x higher scores in our benchmarks than the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. Thus, the Edge 50 Fusion will be about as powerful as Samsung's Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A54, which rely on the Exynos 1380 chipset.
Additionally, the Edge 50 Fusion is said to sport a 6.7-inch pOLED display, a 5,000 mAh battery and IP68 certification against dust and water ingress. By contrast, the device is expected to maintain 68 W peak wired charging, 32 MP front-facing and 50 MP primary cameras and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coverage. While Blass has not revealed a release date, he adds that Motorola intends to sell the Edge 50 Fusion with 256 GB of storage in Peacock Pink, Tidal Teal and Ballad Blue, the latter with a vegan leather finish.
