ASUS has now presented its latest flagship smartphone. Arriving as the Zenfone 11 Ultra without an accompanying smaller Zenfone 11, the device is a re-bodied ROG Phone 8 in many senses but with a slower display. Like the ROG Phone 8, the Zenfone 11 Ultra will only receive two Android OS upgrades despite retailing for €999.

Over two months have elapsed since ASUS presented the ROG Phone 8 (curr. $990 on Amazon) and ROG Phone 8 Pro during CES 2024. Now, the company has brought forth a Zenfone 10 successor, initial details of which it unveiled almost a month ago. As various leaks suggested, the Zenfone 11 Ultra arrives as a complete departure from the Zenfone 10 that launched less than a year ago.

In short, the Zenfone 11 Ultra is a ROG Phone 8 by another name. Correspondingly, the Zenfone 11 Ultra is much larger than the Zenfone 10, with 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm dimensions and a 224 g weight compared to the Zenfone 10's 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.4 mm and 172 g footprint. As such, the Zenfone 11 Ultra has enough space to accommodate a larger display and a higher capacity battery, which total 6.78-inches and 5,550 mAh, respectively.

While the Zenfone 11 Ultra and ROG Phone 8 share identical hardware, ASUS limits the LTPO AMOLED display in the former to 144 Hz. By contrast, the ROG Phone 8 can reach 165 Hz; 2,500 nits peak brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection remain unchanged between devices, though. For reference, the Zenfone 11 Ultra carries across the ROG Phone 8's cameras, including 50 MP primary and 32 MP telephoto sensors.

The Zenfone 11 Ultra starts at $899.99/€999 in the Eurozone with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In other words, the Zenfone 11 Ultra is $100/€100 cheaper than the ROG Phone 8. Alternatively, the Zenfone 11 Ultra will be available with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for €1,099. Please note that both SKUs come with a free pair of ROG Cetra earbuds until April 14. Unfortunately, ASUS will only provide two Android OS upgrades until Android 16, as well as four years of security updates.
